Kilcar singer Rory Gallagher has revealed he is starting a new adventure in a bar in Lanzarote.
The former frontman of The Revs will soon have his name on the door of ‘Rory’s Corner Bar’ in Puerto Del Carmen.
The pub, which is due to open in the New Year, will be run by his friends Aoibhin and Paul O’Keefe. Rory will bring star quality to the entertainment side of the business with regular concerts and ‘sunset sessions’ for locals and tourists.
The exact location of the bar has yet to be revealed, but fans are already looking forward to planning their trips to the Canaries to see Rory in action again in the sunny setting.
Rory, who went viral in 2012 with his song ‘Jimmy’s Winning Matches’, founded The Island Music Bar in Lanzarote and lived on the island for 12 years before returning home in 2018.
Covid-19 has brought unprecedented challenges to the musician. After moving his family to Edinburgh in Scotland to open a brand new live music bar in the city called “The Wildcat” in March 2020, the venue never saw its official opening night. Rory tried out as a delivery driver for Amazon for an entire day before returning to his true passion.
The opportunity for ‘Rory’s Corner Bar’ came unexpectedly, Rory said.
Sharing the news on Facebook, Rory said: “Our good friends Aoibhin and Paul O’Keefe have been saying for ages how they wanted to move and open a bar in Lanzarote, Aoibhin informed me of this little bar that was up for rent, so we brainstormed together and realized we could do something very cool where they live and make it work and i regularly drop by and do sunset sessions!
“We’re going to show all the big sporting events, create a new cocktail menu, even video some of my gigs in the bar when I’m not around (oh the modern world!). We hope to be fully open on January 23 and Aoibhin and Paul look forward to welcoming you all. Many of you may remember Paul who was the bartender at the Island Bar!
“After losing The Wildcat in Edinburgh during the pandemic, we vowed never to open another…but here we go…Viva Lanzarote!”
Rory thanked all of her fans for their support since the pandemic, adding, “I could drive for Amazon… Some of you deserve your own barstool in the new bar.
